I grew up in the heart of Kenya's highlands, in Molo—a bustling little agricultural town.

Life in our family was modest, simple but rich with adventure. We made the most of what we had, and my childhood was a mix of joy and mischief. Saturdays meant chores, fetching water from a river two kilometres away, cleaning animal sheds or rabbit hunting whilst fetching firewood in the forest. Sunday's mass brought out my inner actor (I even won a trophy once!), and life was a delightful rhythm of rural bliss.

Dreaming beyond borders, of an education or life abroad? That was out of reach even in my childhood dream wish list.

After finishing secondary school, I joined my father in his business while I mulled over my future. One day, after a conversation with a friend, my dad mentioned the idea of studying abroad. At the time, it sounded like a long shot —how could a simple kid from Molo dream of something so big? But my father did not see it that way and did not let go.

Quietly and determinedly, he began to piece together a plan and gather information on what it would take. He borrowed a bank statement from a relative and took out a loan against his only asset—his beloved truck! All of this, just to give me a shot at something greater. To this day, I am astonished by his determination, moved by his sacrifice and belief in my potential.

With the support of a friend in Australia on admission, I took a leap of faith. My father's belief in me became my own, and soon, I was boarding a plane to a new world.

Fast forward to today, I hold bachelor's from Australian Catholic University (ACU) and a master's degree from University of Sydney-A top public university ranked 18th ranked university in the world (QS 2025). I have worked at incredible global firms in sales, banking and international education. Roles that have seen me travel in over forty countries and live in three continents. Along the way, I have been privileged to help over 5,000 aspiring students from Africa, Middle East and Asia embark on similar study journeys.

As the Managing Director of Openmaps Agency, I am dedicated to empowering African students and their families to chase their dreams abroad. As the saying goes, a candle loses nothing by lighting another. I strongly believe in this, hence my passion to light more candles sharing my experience and journey. The more candles we light at Openmaps, the more light there is, the more joy and freedom.
